NSS Introduction

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a distinguished public service initiative administered by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Launched in 1969 during the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, NSS embodies the ethos of social responsibility and community engagement.

NSS Unit at MHSSCOE: The NSS Unit at MHSSCOE has been officially sanctioned and allotted by the University of Mumbai for 100 volunteers, as communicated in the letter NSS/ICD/2023-24/77 dated June 15, 2023. However, the current enrollment for the academic year stands at 70 students, including 12 girls and 58 boys from diverse departments.

Achievements and Activities: (2023-24) The NSS unit at MHSSCOE has actively pursued various community service endeavors. Notable achievements include a successful cleanup drive at Girgaon Chowpatty, participation in "Amrut Kalash - Meri Mati Mera Desh," promotion of environmental stewardship through 'Best out of Waste' initiatives, and contribution to afforestation efforts via tree plantation activities. Additionally, the unit collaborated with the Mumbai Police to organize a road safety awareness rally, emphasizing the importance of safe commuting practices.

Moreover, the NSS unit took proactive measures to enhance digital literacy awareness among civilians, aligning with contemporary societal needs.

Participation in External Events: In addition to its internal initiatives, the NSS unit actively engaged in external events facilitated by Mumbai University. These included leadership training camps, organ donation campaigns, and partnerships with the US-India initiatives, showcasing the unit's commitment to holistic development and global collaboration.
